How does the compressibility of gases complicate the measurements of retention volumes in GC?
The measurements of retention volumes in GC is based on the velocity of the mobile phase, and the retention time. In addition the compressibility of the mobile phase influences on the velocity. So the change in volume-dependent terms resulted from pressure gradient depends on the compressibility of the Gas mobile phase.
