Detectors

In LC, there are two types of detectors: Bultk property detectors and solute property detectors.
Bulk property detectors: based on the differences between Solutes and the mobile phase and the mobile phase,  refractive index detectors. The disadvantages of bulk property detectors are low sensitivity, limited dynamic range, and adversely affected by a little change in temperature and mobile phase composition.
Solute property detectors: such as spectrophotometric detectors that respond to physical or chemical property of solutes. High sensitivity, used for analysis of complex mixtures and tolerance of solvent changes are advantageous.
Spectrophotometric detectors include the following:
UV-Vis adsorption dectector is the most important
Flourescence detectors
Chemiluminescence Detectors
Working conditions of spectrophotometric detectors:
The wave length range: 180- 210, usually higher because many mobile phase also strongly absorb light at this wave length range. 254 nm is practically used. It is dependent on the transparent of the mobile phase.
